Australian Archery Hall of Fame Medal
When the Association was first approached in of 2009 to be involved in the awards, the Committee's first assignment was to determine just what the medal would represent. The Committee felt that Life Membership was the highest service honour it could bestow on a member and the Annual Shooter of the Year and Steven Reeks and Marg Cowin Awards represented the pinnacle of performance recognition for a competitor.
Given the environment in which the award is presented, the Committee agreed that the medal should be awarded to a member of 3DAAA who has an established history in the promotion and support of archery in general.
Garry Dawson
This year's winner has a long history in the sport of archery and the Committee recognises his involvement over the past 30 years.
Never one to be trying to drive the bus, Garry's commitment to the sport has always been "in the background" and "under the radar".
When the bus got stuck, you could always guarantee Garry would be down the back pushing.
Some of his career highlights are:
- Joined Quirindi Bowhunters in 1978
- Was Target and Range Master from 1979 until 1985
- Instructor for Archery at PCYC at Quirindi from 1980 until 1985
- Joined Gwydir Valley Archers in 1985 until 1987
- Formed Indoor Archery Club at Scone Youth Centre in 1987 and still assists in the running of it today.
- Formed Lake Glenbawn Field Archery and Recreation club in 1989
- Whilst an ABA club held the positions of Club Coach, Bowhunting Instructor and Measurer.
- Held the position of Shoot Director since the clubs inception.
- Was Club Coordinator for the World Bowhunter titles.
- Appointed to the Committee as Club Liaison Officer for 3DAAA in 2005.
