Hinterland Field Archers on the Gold Coast was host to the 2010 QLD State Titles and the weatherman had nothing but bad news for the weekend, but the ranges were set, the drinks were chilled and everyone hoped for the best.
Saturday morning started off overcast and didn’t look good but it wasn’t long before the clouds had made way for a beautiful, sunny day. 86 keen archers turned up ready to shoot some 3D and have some fun. Three ranges had been set by our resident evil genius range captain and his helpers.
Yellow and green ranges were hard but fair but blue range on the other hand was just evil. With three hen turkeys, dead ground and tunnel shots, there weren’t too many happy faces walking off blue range Saturday.
On Saturday afternoon the Top Ten “dot shoot” was held with archers aiming for a dot the size of a 20 cent piece strategically placed on a strutting turkey. Both divisions were close but in the end Mark Wilcher took out the sighted division and Neils Thilen took out the unsighted division.
Then with shooting out of the way it was time to sit back and relax before stoking up the fire ready for the cold night ahead.
Sunday morning was chilly (4 degrees at 6:30) and the sun was out but unfortunately so was blue range, with more twists than the day before. Everybody was keen to make amends for the day before but there were still some unhappy faces.
Overall scores were down a little over the weekend due to the tough, challenging ranges but it was a great weekend of archery.
A special thanks to the sponsors, the ladies in the canteen, the range setters and everyone else who helped out to make it another great shoot.
