It was all systems go for the start of the new season for Victoria.

Archers were arriving all eager to shoot, the weather was fine and everyone set off with great expectations.

First up for some was the turkey and the nightmares were back.

On the second course we had the new tree stand. This presented its challenges for all, but the cubs really enjoyed this one, particularly when they beat mum or dads score on the target.

The third course, not to be outdone, featured a croc on the river bank with enough distracting rocks in the background to ensure you had to focus on the game at hand.

The scores were coming in for the end of Saturday; and our newly appointed trained scorer Naomi was busy putting things together while the rest of the DVA team were resetting the grounds for Sunday’s event. A glance at the scores revealed that, as usual the placings were close.

On Sunday morning eager once more to get the day underway, archers started to arrive early and were on their way.

Brad in fine form led the way in the MBO class, Doug led the way in MBR, Peter in RU. In Trad we had Ian leading with Eddie and Hue in hot pursuit. Amongst the younger ranks Sian (new to the game shooting in NCC cub) had plans to keep ahead of mum’s scores while Kain was aiming to catch up to dad’s scores; only this time Steve had been putting in the practice.

Sunday presented a new set of challenges as the use of the DVA grounds came into its own with up and down hill shots combined with dead ground etc. (who gave these guys ideas like these?).

Everyone made it back, some reflecting on the shots they had made; the good ones and the bad ones; the lucky ones and the ones where everything else was the cause of the score.

The main aim is always to have an enjoyable time and this was no exception, as the club house and the courses were full of laughs and smart comments throughout both days.

Once again a big thanks to all the DVA crew that made this event another success.
