Nabiac 2010
The Manning Valley was once again featured when their local archery club The Mountain View Archers hosted one of the biggest sporting tournaments to be held in the region. The event, known as The Sunbury Riverside 3DAAA Classic is set on 235 acres situated south of Nabiac, was an archer’s delight. Club members under the guidance of the master range setter Allan Sherman spent 2 weeks designing the 5 ranges & with his sometimes evil interpretation of an easy shot he once again fooled most into a relaxed attitude on the shot, only to come undone with a wrong guess. They were situated across dams, open paddocks, down tunnels & a first with the standing bear helping himself to a drink out of a fridge & another eating out of an esky. Al Sherman classics that go right up there with the croc up the tree he gave us at Nationals a few years back.
A downpour on Saturday morning delayed the start until around 8am, but the skies cleared and the absence of any more rain made it a beautiful Autumn weekend. Not a sign of mozzies or leeches to annoy the huge roll up of competitors so those that maybe missed out due to last year’s experience can rest assured it was a result of the 4 weeks of deluge we suffered at that time.
There were plenty of close scores in all divisions, including a hotly contested Top Ten. Gerard Miles finally won the Top Ten after a great battle of trying to separate the qualifiers & there were a couple of new faces on the line, which was great to see. Young Cub Ethan Myers showed us all up with 2 x 100s, a grand result he can be proud of.
The days & nights were awash with barbecues, gourmet dinners, plenty of drinks, & our resident DJ; thanks Russell for the entertainment. After all the scores were in on Sunday, there was the usual wind down with raffles, medal presentations, sponsor & hosts accolades.
A thank you to our hosts seems insignificant for all their work hospitality & organisation but to Ron, Graham, Leon & their helpers the event could not have been the success it was without your input thanks on behalf of all the new friends in archery you have now made. Remember all cabins were booked out early, so if you want to pre book for next years tournament get in early. We were also fortunate to have coverage via NBN TV, radio & our local newspapers we thank them also.
Promote our new tag line "3DAAA The Ultimate Archery Challenge". Bare bowers don't carry umbrellas!!
Catch you at the next shoot.
