Manly 2009

(Scores)

The weeks leading up to the Manly club’s round of the NSW Series were fairly hectic as ranges, clubhouse & catering were all prepared. The rain that caused a major drop in numbers the previous year was nowhere to be seen & everyone was feeling pretty optimistic about the weekend ahead.
But Saturday morning the optimism was replaced with a sense of déjà vu as the skies clouded over & rain started to fall. Still, there were a lot of keen archers out there determined not to let Mother Nature play havoc with their plans for the weekend.
It didn’t take long before the weather cleared & the ranges were full. With 5 ranges open there was little in the way of congestion & thankfully, the leeches were down in number this year! In a weekend of challenging and spectacular shots the chamois across the gully, set at about 46m was easily the standout shot. Range setters took full advantage of every tunnel, rock & cave, with many of the targets looking totally natural in their surroundings. Even the croc in the deep, moist cave had a few holding their breath as they waited for the sound of arrow in rubber rather than rock.
Brad Murphy had a pearler of a weekend, with a win in Top Ten, MBO and a perfect round making the trip well worth his time and effort. Only one other perfect round was shot on the weekend, with Gerard Miles proving he is still a force to be reckoned with.
“Speed” showed his prowess with catering more than matched his ability with the bow & kept the masses happily fed. A big well done to all the crew for a great weekend that lived right up to expectations.
