Moonan 2009
The New South Wales State Titles and the New South Wales State Series has been wrapped up for 2009 after the final round held recently at Moonan Flat hosted by Cessnock Archers, and the reputation of Moonan Flat is very much implanted in the minds of all archers throughout the 3D and other fields of archery. With one hundred and seventy competitors, Moonan Flat has once again proved itself to be the premium State Series round.
The work to get this event up and running commenced around March of this year when Grant Elsley started to drum up sponsorship and attain donations of items to put on the highly sought after raffle table, but the brain work really started around three weeks prior to the shoot when Grant, Gerard Miles, Chad McDougall and Megan Weir set out on the annual trek to Moonan Flat to lay out the courses. Before they left there was talk of "how can we make these shots seem different to the regular visitors to Moonan using the similar ground we are all accustomed to"?
But all who contested these ranges will surely attest to the intense challenges that were placed in front of them once they walked up to their respective pegs. There was some real doosies of shots out there for this State Titles battle and I don't think I need to list any of them here because they will certainly be talked about by all who attended. And, before I get into the top finishers for the event we would all like to thank the very brave that took the dunk into the extremely cold waters of the Hunter River to retrieve many an arrow that got tangled up in the drift wood after sailing into the currents.
New South Wales State Title winners were Peter Fryer MBO, Nicola Alam FBO, Mark (Bimbo) Collins MBR,Pauline Smith FBR, Owen Kirkman MBF, Tracey Warner FBF, John Stephenson MCU, Amelia Greenwood FBU, Alan Sherman RU, Peter Blackford Trad, Christian Kropp MSR, Pat Tydings AHC, Cameron Ward YMF, Matthew McDougall YMR 13-14, Brandon Stephenson YMR 15-17, Hayley Elliott YF, Holly Warner YU, Jake Collins CUB A, San Bailey CUB U and Grace Bradford CUB F. Congratulations to all these winners.
The Top Ten was probably one of the best you could witness with just five points between 1 and 10 in the line up of Peter Sandell-Hay in number one with a massive 284 (this was Peter's second ever 3D event) then Peter Fryer, John Stephenson, Christian Kropp, Ron Cornish, Geoff Chapman, Simon Gallen, Steve Cougran, Ian Elliott and Mark Collins at 279. Peter Sandell-Hay carried his good form through to take out the Top Ten title and go for the traditional "you win your in" swim in the Hunter River.
Cessnock archers would like to thank all of their very important sponsors, BCY Inc, Bohning Archery, Victoria Hotel, Razer Industries, Bro Built, Bullivants, Brauntell, Onesteel, Hunter Valley Lubricants, Boom Logistics, Haggie Reid , Accolades, Oceanic Archery and Carney Archery, without these businesses and people any such events would not be able to survive and continue to flourish as Moonan Flat has now for the past twelve years.
This just leaves the National Titles coming up on November 14th -15th at Nambucca Heads, so polish up the bows and your form and we will all catch up on what has been a great 2009 of 3D archery.
Don't forget to get your questions ready for our guest American professional Darren Christianberry at the question and answer night on Saturday evening at the Nambucca Heads Bowling Club. ....more
Looking forward to meeting you all there.
