Victorian State Titles 2009
The planning was in place for some good shooting in the place we call the Quarry – it is a just that a quarry; as I had a new team to get the quarry set up for the days events it was going to be good – new ideas and shot placements.
Peter and Brett at Twin Cities got the targets in order, new numbers and stakes (need strong ones for some places are like concrete) and all was being confirmed via emails and on the forum.
The week in Victoria started out promising, but as we moved towards the week end while all were optimistic, mother nature was not going to come to the party, as my team from DVA set out early Friday morning to go and get the ranges set up we looked to the skies in hope.
On arrival, it was a matter of getting down there and getting it all in before the rains …… this we did with quite a few showers, slides in the softening sands and a few choice words yet we were excited for what we had put in for the competitors.
Teamwork was excellent and thanks to all those that assisted.
Well Friday night at the club was fun, great indoor range to practice on and listen to the non stop rain and wind that had set in …… it was good to be inside; this went on all into the night and into the early hours of the morning.
Saturday, saw the arrival of the competitors and we had all the scores cards and details on the table so they could sign in and get out as soon as they had relaxed and taken a few shots etc.
It was not long before we had groups down onto the courses (1.5 to 2.5 kms from the club house), and the familiar archers cry of success or disappointment ….. but everyone was quite about the weather, while a little cold and windy in parts there was no R….; and all in all everyone was having fun, new and old alike, the new cubs and juniors were enjoying themselves as moved through the courses.
As we completed day one around 2:00 – 2:30pm it rained and I mean rained with strong winds …. give you an example I had to drive out and the windshield washers pumping water onto the screen was not even making it to the windshield it was being blown side ways.
Day one saw one of our visitors from up North shoot a perfect round 100 congratulations Jason a feat he would repeat on the next day as well; thank you to both Jason and Geoff for coming across and supporting the event.
