Qld Titles were held at the Gold Coast Hinterland club this year and what a fantastic job they did of it!!! Picturesque courses made for breezy days with great shooting weather. The course setters utilised the grounds to the fullest with tricky shots designed to confound. Saturday night band and great meals saw quite a large social event. This was a top event and as usual left us wishing for more 3D.

Casino State of Origin went off with a BANG!!! Great event, however the sneaky new south'ers won the trophy with a nail biting finish. The weather was great and the courses were top quality. Casino always put on a heroic event for the State of Origin and this year was no exception. Well done NRFA!!!

The Kilcoy shoot was held in great weather in some of the most picturesque settings that Queensland offers. The courses were very challenging and made many an archer rethink thier distance estimation. How good were the trophies!!!! Some amazing work done to make those beauties. Thanks to the Lazarus brothers, Brenden and Mike for their amazing efforts there. Chalk up a great weekend for all archers who attended and thanks to Caboolture Bowmen for a fantastic effort!!

Longflat 2005 - A report from Alan ShermanThe scene was set for another clash between archer and rubber. But to know the outcome would take 2 days , 135 archers and 50 targets to determine! The battle grounds (ranges) were arranged in a manner that either party could become the victor, with the ability of the archer (or lack of) against the cunning of the target setters e.g. 37yd turkey over open ground, 42 yd standing bear 3/4 ing away with the Hastings River as a back drop or the 44yd downhill boar just behind the pub that made many an archer wanting to shoot it again and the list goes on and on. The humidity also played a large part in to and fro of archer and rubber with many litres of water going out to quench the thirst of the fool hardy that elected to take on the challenge of Long Flat Shootout . Day 1 ended with many a archer licking their wounds and retreating to the river side to recover and take in refreshment in one form or another. The Top Ten Sighted was held in the cool of the evening. Hunter class shooter Daniel Goldstein taking the winning shot at the croc with a 35yd dead centre 10. The entertainment for saturday night was fantastic to say the least . The ladies at the pub did a 1st class job of the catering (lamb spit roast) The band fired up with a very original take on their repertoire of songs and to the amazement of the crowd had a fellew archer up there with them, playing a harmonica like they had never heared before. This fellow really knows how to blow!!!! (Thanks Shaun, Harpo to his mates) Day 2 was looking to be much the same as the one before , with the humidity still hanging around but 20 different challengers were awaiting the unwary. After a couple of hours some top scores and not so good started to trickle in. While the recorders were tallying the weekend totals the scene was set again , this time for the Top Ten Unsighted . Compond unaided shooter Mike Parker winning with a great shot on the black buck. The battle group was brought together for a final time to receive the fruits of war between them and the somtimes elusive rubber. The question was put to the many , Would they dare take up arms to meet the challenge of the Long Flat Shootout again?? and the answer was YES . So it looks like they'll be back, will you dare to join them??? - Alan Sherman

Thanks for the Pics and the Report Alan. Remember, If your club has a shoot and I am not there, can the official photographer PLEASE send me some pics and a report so I can post them. All of 3DAAA is interested in your shoot!!!!

Our First Shoot - Ravensbourne QLD - hosted by all of the great people from Maranoa. What a GREAT weekend!!!!! Sunshine, Rolling hills, Challenging courses. Everything we have come to love about 3DAAA tournaments. The Maranoa club hosted as fine a shoot as there ever was. Tournament conditions werent perfect though, the wind meant that the archers had thier hands full when shooting. Many of us dropped shots and scores were down on what could have possibly been achieved. Approximately 130 shooters attended and I do believe everyone had a ball. Families having fun, Friendships renewed, Archery excellence... Isnt this what its all about?

3DAAA RULE CHANGES FOR 2005

The 2004 National Titles were held at Nambucca Heads this year. 222 Archers and thier families turned up to enjoy one of the finest weekends of 3D Archery ever. What more could we have asked for. The weather was perfect, the competition was hot and everything ran smooth as silk. There were some very memorable shots and the evolving scoreboard saw rankings move around a lot. I have posted the scores for you all to view.

Highlights of the 2004 Nationals weekend.

To begin with was the incredible shot on range A. It was a very steep downhill shot on the croc which had a backdrop of a nice water view. Many Arrows went for a swim on the weekend and many of us came off that course cursing crocs. To hit a 5 was to breath a sigh of relief, to nail a ten was almost heroic!!! The other targets on all courses were designed to make you think.... A lot!! The courses were very hard without being overly long. It was masterful use of some terrific terrain.

The Top 10 saw the positioning of another great croc shot. I didnt know they actually floated, but they do!! Brad Murphy top scored for the day and chose to shoot the chital deer which was set out around 43 metres. Those who scored a 10 on it moved on to the floating croc, which was shot from the bridge. The top 10 sighted shootoff ended up with a duel between Paul Malynn and Ian Campbell. Ian finally took the contest with a fine shot.

The Barebow top 10 ended in the most exciting duel It has ever been my privilige to witness. The upshot is that after the first few targets the contest came down to a barebow compound shooter Kevin Roberts and a Gary penshorn shooting a wooden recurve a mate of his made with wooden arrows. What a spectacle. At the end of the 5 Barebow targets these two were tied so the decision was made to get them to shoot the sighted targets. I think these guys had their arrows on a tring straight to the target. The contest ended with Gary and his wood gear taking the day over the new technology compound. Great shooting guys.

The weekend was totally awesome! The Victorian contingent was victorious taking away the Daryl Bulger Trophy for Highest points scored on the weekend. At least two of the Shooter of the year competitions came down to the wire with the last shot on the last day deciding who took out the Shooter of the Year title in Hunter Class and in MBO. Check out all of the Shoot Pics . All in All it was as good a weekend as you could hope for. The venue at the Pacific Sands Park right on the beach at Nambucca is one the whole family can enjoy, and I for one will be back next year. See you all at the Christmas shoot
