Hi everybody. The following are photo galleries that have all of the pictures for each 3D Archery Association 3DAAA event that I have taken. I have missed a couple of events over the year and I will probably miss a few to come.
Over time I will organise this into an account of what went on at the tournaments. The links are organised so that the latest tournament is at the top of the links
Thanks go out to the 3DAAA Photographers for the Southern Shoots, Helen and Ian Elliott. Thanks, U take great photos.
Latest of the Latest
Scores for Kilcoy and Moonan Flats have been posted here.
Pics of the 3rd leg of the National Triple Crown at Copeton Dam are finally posted. Sorry about the delay folks but life can hold you up sometimes :) Great shoot with much better weather this year. The Moonscape course is still the best course in the competition and I think the highlight for me was watching Grant Jenkins make it to the top ten and manage to hit the target which was 15+yards past his max. Grant shoots Recurve aided. Well done to RSM Copeton Waters Archery!!!
3RD Leg of the Northern Series was held at the Hinterland club down on the beautiful Queensland Gold Coast. This was the Hinterlands first official 3DAAA event (i.e not a special event) and it was a resounding success. Courses were laid out extemely well with a diverse variety of shots and everyone had a ball. Well done Hinterland, we will definately be back next year.
The QLD TITLES were the most challenging courses set in a long while and that in itself will remain a talking topic for some time to come. Many relished the difficulty and as can be seen from the scores, the courses managed to seperate the field quite well. Well done North Albert Field Archers, this was a good reminder to the 3D community that there remains a lot of depth to learn in our game yet.
2nd Leg National Triple Crown - Casino - State of Origin One of the Largest shoots to be held in recent years, 187 archers descended upon the Casino grounds to compete for the honor of thier State. This year we would like to welcome those from Victoria who made thier way up to partake in thier first major National shoot. Wicked Courses, Great company and all of things that we hae come to expect from a 3DAAA tournament. NRFA did an amazing job as usual and to all of thier club members we offer heart felt thanks. NSW managed to win the State of Origin trophy, but dont get too used to it because next year we can see a couple of other States with there focus upon it. By the way, the Croc course bought many of us undone, it just goes to show that there is still much for us all to learn in our favourite game 3D.
TMJ Targets have new additions to their range of GREAT 3D Paper Targets. These targets provide clubs with a great Paper 3D game to challenge even the most experienced archer. Long lasting, Larger than life and twice as real, these targets are the bomb!!! Talk to Terry today.
2ND Leg of the Northern Tri series was held at Ipswich and what a shoot that was. The Olddog Noel Teelow did his best to perplex all archers with an amazing amount of variety in his courses and the inclusion of new Reinhart targets had us all guessing. The 'Fish out of Water", the Ugly Baboon, the Bundy Bear,
Giant Cobra, wow, these things were great. Pics can be seen here
The National Triple Crown at Orara River has just been and gone. To all of the people at the Coffs Coast Archers, hats off people. The shoot was brilliant. Weather was balmy, courses were well thought out and very challenging. I am still getting over wiping that last shot on range C (Dog from the rocks.) The deer herd was cool and made the shot look very diffcult. This shoot was Great!!!
Bunya mountains 1st leg Northern Series Just keeps getting better. No coronary hill this year (we are all thankfull for that), Weather was perfect and the courses were set in some very picturesque country. The Barebow Top Ten and the Sighted Top Ten were a thrill to watch, and the whole event was smoothly done. A big thankyou to all of the folks at the Roma Club, and we will definately be back next year. Just to note, the scores arent posted yet... they will go up as soon as possible.
The Wingen shoot scores are posted, unfortunately I dont know much about
the shoot other than everyone had a great time, some great prizes were won and it was HOT!!! You should be able to read
all about it in the next Newsletter.

Shooter of the Year awards Dinner and Christmas shoot. The Final Blast for the 2003 year. Our top shooters honored and a great way to end a 3DAAA season. Terry was all dressed up, Dinner was delicious, and the shooting was relaxed and fun. Grant Elsley spiced it up with the addition of a money day on the Saturday with a scoring system that brought all of the scores in reach of each other. The Top Ten was a hoot as the finalists shot it out down to the last animal, and the teams events on the Sunday had all of the competitors talking and sharing thier experience. Congratulations to Rachel Buhse for winning the Margaret Cowen award and to Dieter Muller for winning the Steven Reeks Medal. To all of those who attained Shooter of the Year in thier respective Divisions, Well Done!!! This year is done, the next one is coming, I for one, am practicing already. 3DAAA Rox!!!!
The Mornington Peninsula Bowmen Archery Club held thier first 3DAAA shoot this year. It was a resounding success and bodes well for the future of 3DAAA in Victoria. Here is the full story with some pics from the event. Well Done Mornington!!!
3DAAA Australian Nationals - Nambucca Heads What a way to wind up a year of GREAT competition. The venue was magnificent, beaches , great accommodation, marvellous courses challenging even the best of us. We had a couple of visitors who came from the Netherlands to compete (Hi Arthur and Ed!!). They managed to do very well in thier respective divisions. 180+ archers had a fantastic time. Hats off folks, to Terry Sheather (our Prez) and all of the willing workers who helped to put on this Archery Spectacular. To all of those who co mpeted, well done. Our sport can not do without you. To all of those who excelled amongst thier peers, again, well done!! You give the rest of us a mark to strive towards. The competion year is over and I for one am already wishing next year would hurry up and get here!! See you at the Christmas shoot folks, for some Archery R&R. AWWWSOME!!! Gotta love this sport!!!
John Hawkins Memorial - Murwillumbah Sigh!!! Another shoot that I couldnt make it to, Apparently it was a real Beauty too!!! Lucky for me mbfmike (Mike Lazarus) took the pics for me. Thanks Mike. He also had this to say about the shoot. "What a great weekend, course was set out for accuracy shots. Saw the odd Beaver or two with a Bobcat. Offset Hen turkey put the willies up everybody. Food was layed so thick even Big Mick couldn't go back for seconds. The weather held off for Saturday then drizzled on Sunday, just enough to wetthe bows and lower the scores a bit. Everybody had a relaxed time with a friendly atmosphere all round. Well done to Murwillumbah Club for an excellent weekend."
3rd Leg Southern Triple Crown - Moonan Flats I wasnt there, But I heard it was brilliant!!!! Thanks to Helen and Ian Elliot for the Pics and Ian had this to say about the event. "Moonan flats kept up to its name with some pretty challenging ranges, saturdays ranges were typical mountain goat territory which seemed to get everybodys approval as challenging and fair. The top ten was held on the bridge under some different conditions starting with sun and ending in rain. The winner of the top ten was Andrew Sherman. Sunday was to see more interesting shots with those who missed to search amongst some stinging nettle.Presentation was at the pub with great raffle prizes as usual, particularly a left handed quiver which was won by Ian Elliott (the left handed quiver has been won the last 4 yrs by Mark & Ian Elliott).Overall shooter was awarded to Geoff Chapman and Junior shooter was awarded to Jessica Elliott"
The QLD Titles - Woooooeeeeeee!!! This was a wild and windy affair. The Competition was bright and fast and Caboolture District Bowmen did it all in style. The Grounds were tremendous and the host had a great restaurant with some of the most amazing trophy animals I have ever seen. All in all, it was a wild time and everyone had a ball.
National Triple Crown - Final Leg Hosted by RSM Copeton Waters Archery. As tough as it gets people, a challange to be met by all archers. This one had it all including tough courses, cold weather, Hot coffee, good people, pig on a spit, and a good old fashion storm. The "moonscape" course was a real blast and the top ten was as exciting as ever. Variety is the spice of life, Congrats RSM Copeton Waters, we will be back next year.
The Northern Tri Series - Final Leg Hosted by North Albert Field Archers is Yatala, Queensland. This one was a shoot for champions folks. The most challanging courses to date, and so they should be for the Final of the Norhern tri series. I am sure as the archery season draws closer to the end, we will see more of the same. Weather was perfect, Top ten was tops, Special thanks to Daryl Bulger for donating that 1st prize for the Top 10, very cool painting. A couple of brand new, never seen before targets made thier debut here and had us all hopping. 'Big it up' for the Crew at NAFA who made it all happen!!! I know I say it a lot, but I am gonna say it again, This sort of stuff is the reason we all shoot 3DAAA Archery. Outstanding!!!
The National Triple Crown - 2nd Leg Orara River How Was That!!!! W00T!!! I didnt want to come home, I could have stayed shooting arrows all week long. The lion shot..... How was the lion shot! And the Bear shot.... How cool was the Bear Shot!!! I love this game. Good onya Coffs, as usual, brilliant, and I am sure 140 Archers agree with me.
Booral - Second leg of the Southern Tri Series. Thanks to Ian and Helen Elliot who sent me the pictures and Ian also wrote a small commentary for us. "The ranges were top notch 3d courses and were a credit to the blokes from Lake Macquarie Field Archers. Apart from a brief shower on saturday the weather was perfect. Everything seemed to go well, canteen left no stomach hungry. Everybody looked as though they enjoyed themselves and the setting was a lovely country retreat." Thanks Ian. You can view the scores here.
The National Triple Crown - 1ST Leg Casino The 3DAAA State of Origin had all of us playing for our States. What a great time!!! Weather was crisp and bright, Courses were hard and fast, and everybody had a ball. The Top Ten Sighted and Barebow format paired the top scoring 5 from each State in a duel that came down to the wire and had us all on the edge. Outstanding work Casino - NRFA, whatta shoot! 3DAAA moves from strength to strength as the shooting year progresses.
3DAAA Special Event - Turkey Shoot Turkeys everywhere!!! Those Turkeys are getting easier to see on a course everytime I do one of these shoots. Great Stuff - A year of Turkeys crammed into 2 days and by the end of it a Deer or Pig seem huge!! This was Fun with a capital F people. Congrats to the Caboolture club for this years Special Event.
The 2nd Leg of the Northern Tri-Series was held at the awesome Ipswich Club. Rolling hills, Grassy knolls, Twisting Gullies, and Noel Teelow once again proves that it isnt always distance that makes a difficult shot. A little bit of hidden ground goes a long way!!! Great stuff Ipswich. The highlight for me was the BareBow Top Ten with with Jeff Else proving his 'Jedi' Status and showing us all how the 'Force' is used.
2003 NSW State Titles
Hats off to Lake Glenbawn Club. Outstanding!!! Thanks to Hoyt and Jack Carney for the Unsponsored (Hoyt Bow) Shooters Prize.Lake Glenbawn is 'Beeeuuuutiful'. The club members down there must be some of the luckiest archers around. You can sit on the great club deck overlooking the lake, sip on a beer, watch the sun go down, and wonder how it could get any better. It was a long drive down for this Queenslander but well worth it. The grounds are 70 odd acres of some pretty extreme hills and gullies and the wide variety of ranges made it an experience to remember. The new and unusual format for the top ten had all of the crowd peaking in interest and really made a great finish to the first day and the brainteasing courses had everybody coming away from this shoot on a natural high. Well done to everyone from the Lake Glenbawn Club for this 3DAAA Tournament Circuit Highlight. Everything a fun weekend should be.
Gloucester - 1st Leg Southern Tri Series
The first of the Southern Tri series happened in style. From all reports it was a great success. I have some pictures of the event, kindly sent to me by Ian and Helen Elliot, and also some sent to me from Steve and Ramona Elton. Thanks very much people, it is most appreciated. You can see those pictures here.
Bunya Mountains - 1st Leg Northern Tri Series
It was the first shoot for the year and what a way to start out!!
It had been a long wait over for many of us over the Christmas break, and I for one had traumatic archery withdrawals :) So it was with great enthusiasm that I set off to the Bunya Mountains to engage in Tourney with my fellow 3D Archers.
The new Tournament grounds were excellent, although I personally had trouble with 'Coronary' Hill. It was great to get into the bush and along the creek beds.
The courses were laid out with a maximum of Brain Teasing in mind and managed to suck in quite a few of us. We had dead ground, gullies and how about those wildly steep shots on the end of course one.
It just shows that you dont have to put out Max distance shots to make a really challenging course. There were quite a few New Archers at the tournament (Hi to the folks from Hinterland Club) and the numbers in general were great.
To the Maranoa Club from out Roma way, You folks Rock... well done, we all had a blast.

2002 3DAAA National Finals The culmination of a year of competitive archery. Congratulations to all those who placed in the Tournament, 3DAAA National Champs one and all. How big was this? Bigger than Ten Bears!!! (At Least!). Everything you would expect from a Championship event, Shooter of the Year positions were won and lost on a single arrow, Competition was tight and the weekend saw it all... The weather managed to create its own problems with the onset of rain hopefully dampening the bushfires further out. Jamie Bradshaw took the honours for the Top Ten, Dale Nieborg took the trophy for most points scored on the weekend. 'It was the most fun ya could have and keep breathing'. I for one, CANNOT WAIT until the Shoot Timetable is released for next year... If ya missed it this year people, there is always next year, and the game just keeps getting better...
2002 Inaugural Turkey Shoot - Wild Turkeys Everywhere. This is one event I hope they run again. Put this one on the calendar folks!!
Copeton Dam
Australias largest inland Dam. What a GREAT Place to have a shoot. Jump in the 4x4 and drive down to the dam front for a spot of fishing
. Saturday Nite and Les pulls out the Weber and a haunch of venison, Onya Les :), A bonza way to finish off a day of shooting.
The John Hawkins Memorial
This 3DAAA Event was held down in Murwillumbah NSW. It will
certainly live in my memory. I have some great shots up until the 'My Camera has gone into the only water to be found in a drought' episode. Crocs hate me!! ;)
I would like to thank Dale for lending me his (much nicer) Digital camera for the rest of the shoot. I would also like to thank one of
the www.3daaa.com sponsors Platypus.net.au for replacing my camera for a new Digi HP.
North Albert hosted the 3DAAA State of Origin The Crocodile Shot will live with me forever ;)

Ewen Maddock
I took a trip to Casino and it was well worth it. The courses were the most challenging and varied to date. Come and look.
Triple Crown - Casino
The 3DAAA Queensland State titles were held in Ipswich this year. The grounds have an excellent dry riverbed that makes a great course.
Have a look...
